The third league game in the season was at our other new ground, Homefield Park in Worthing.

The first half was really competitive. There were a lot of chances for both teams to score in the early period with both teams looking to catch each other’s defence out. It was a strong Lancing attack that took advantage in the 9th minute managing to penetrate the Atoms defence and score their first goal. Lancing were able to score again to double their lead after 15 minutes putting atoms 2-0 down.

Atoms did pull a goal back in the first-half. Giles was assisted by a pass by Aiden to score and reduce the deficit to one. Atoms left the pitch at half-time with a very positive attitude realising there was still scope of victory.

The second half-started well. The Atoms had paid attention to the half time talk. After 7 minutes Joshua levelled the score at 2-2. The equalizer had a galvanising effect for the Atoms and the opposite for Lancing United. The team from Lancing couldn’t recover their first-half momentum. The home team were now ‘on the up’ and took advantage of their momentum when Oliver scored his first goal to make it 3–2 to the Atoms. After 22 minutes of the second-half, George scored his first goal of the season ably assisted by a pass by Giles to make it 4–2. Lancing had to make an enforced change following a neck injury to their goalkeeper. Late on Oliver scored his second goal of the game to make the final score 5-2.

In a well contested game the Atoms were able to get the result. Hoping the Lancing keeper makes a speedy recovery. Man of the Match: Giles
