AFC Worthing Youth Divas U15 3 – 3 Chichester City Youth Girls

Date: 07/02/2016
Venue: Worthing FC
Goals: Georgia (32), Millie (47), Gypsy (58)

In strong blustery conditions at Worthing Football Club, AFC Worthing Youth Divas played their first match of 2016.

The Divas started the game on the front foot with the wind behind them and enjoyed lots of possession. The Chichester keeper made some good saves. The Chichester defence held strong and appeared happy for the Divas to have the ball and for the defending team to get lots of players behind the ball which worked well in their favour.

Chichester were hitting Worthing on the break and looked very dangerous when doing so. The Chichester girls put in some quality crosses that had the Divas defence in disarray at times. On 21 mins Chichester took the lead against the run of play. Another good cross picked out the Chichester captain on the edge of the box who was able to shape her body and curl her shot past Darian in goal giving her no chance.

The Divas continued to press and the introduction of newly signed Georgia helped the girls look a little bit livelier in attack. Michelle won a great tackle in the middle of the pitch and played the ball to Millie how inturn slid in Georgia with a perfectly weighted pass, Georgia took one skip past the defender and smashed the ball into the top corner of the goal. Half time.

The Divas were on the back foot in the second half with Chichester playing with the wind. The girls had to sit back as Chichester had done in the first half and try and counter on the break. The Divas continued to try and play positive passing football in hard conditions and on 47 mins a Worthing cross was half collected by the opposition goalkeeper with Millie putting her under pressure, this pressure paid of as the Chichester keeper fumbled the ball and Millie turned and smashed it into a open goal, 2-1 Divas.

Worthing continued to look a little nervous at times in defence and Darian made a couple of outstanding saves to keep the girls in the match and when Ava and Gypsy linked up down the right hand side Gypsy unleashed an unstoppable thirty yarder over the top of the keeper to put the girls 3-1 up.

Chichester continued to press and still looked very much in the game and hit back with two scrappy goals due to some poor marking in the final 20 mins to make the game all square at 3-3.

This was the first game the girls had played since Dec 7th and against a very strong physical Chichester team who are better than their league position. Kudos to all the Chichester team as they had no subs, a really spirited performance. This was a very good performance that keeps the AFC Worthing Youth Divas U15’s unbeaten and back to the top of the league.
