AFC Worthing Youth Divas played their third match of the season at home at Ferring FC to last season’s nemesis, Crawley Wasps. On what was a glorious afternoon for football, the girls were rightly guarded before the match having lost to Wasps four times the season before. Welcoming back Captain Millie Colbran after two matches out the girls fielded a strong starting 11.

Playing with the wind behind them the Divas started quickly. The girls were playing some excellent football on the brilliant Ferring FC county ground. Within the space of two minutes the girls had exploited the space with right-midfielder Ava playing the ball to Cydney who calmly placed the ball into the net to give the Divas a 1-0 lead. With this excellent start the girls asserted themselves and took control of the game with Crawley seeming somewhat shell-shocked with the quality of play. Time and again the Divas midfield were winning the ball and creating chances for Cydney and Millie but to no avail as excellent goalkeeping and some missed efforts kept the score at 1-0. The Divas would rue the batch of missed opportunities, against the run-of play Crawley Wasps equalized. The girls not thwarted by the setback and kept their expansive game in place. Taking the ball down the line Tish looked up to see the Crawley keeper out and took full advantage with a brilliant floated ball over the Crawley keeper. With the lead restored the girls continued to attack the Crawley team. Ava was enjoying success down the left–hand side and was giving the Crawley full-back no end of problems. The Divas sensing more scored a third when Millie ran onto a ball and took a shot which went through the legs of the Crawley keeper with and Millie following it up. Half-time 3:1.

Crawley made tactical changes at half-time looking to get back into the game, but to no avail. Not long after the restart then Cydney scored her second goal of the match following excellent work from the Divas midfield. The ball was slipped to Millie who powered forward and slipped the ball to Cyd to fire past the keeper, 4-1. With Crawley heads dropping, AFC Worthing Youth Divas now in total control, the girls were creating chance after chance and further goals were still to come with Ava adding a fifth on the 58th minute following a run down the wing, cutting into the box and shooting in the bottom left-hand corner. The next two goals saw Millie complete her hat-trick. The final goal saw Millie take the ball following great work from the midfield and Millie running onto the ball using both feet to take the ball around the keeper and coolly complete the rout with her left-foot.

In what was an imperious performance all of the girls played without doubt their finest game in what was an amazing team effort. From Darian in goal to the Divas defence who were first to the ball each and every time and a midfield that ran tirelessly, the girls completely nullified the Crawley Wasps threat with a breathtaking display of football. Had it not been for an excellent display by the Crawley keeper and missed opportunities from the Divas, the final result could have gone into double figures.
