AFC Worthing Youth Girls 4 – 0 Newhaven Girls

AFC Worthing Youth Divas U15 4 – 0 Newhaven Girls

Date: 06/12/2015
Venue: Goring Hall, Worthing
Goals: Cydney (x2), Millie, Ellie

AFC Worthing Youth Divas started the game on the front foot with the wind with them and tried to get the ball down and pass it around in very difficult windy conditions. Newhaven sat back and got lots of players behind the ball and were well organised. The Divas found this very frustrating, but continued to press and made a few chances. Millie had a half chance but narrowly dragged her shot just wide from the edge of the box.

Newhaven tried to catch the Divas on the break but the girls stood strong and were happy to play the ball back to Gypsy in goal who normally plays up front, due to having fantastic footwork Gypsy controlled the ball on a couple of occasions and picked out a Worthing player with a great pass for the girls to then put more pressure on the Newhaven defence.

On 38 minutes, Ava took her corner which was cleared back to her by a Newhaven defender, Ava took a great first touch to control the ball and crossed superbly to the back post for Cydney to head into an open net due the keeper being stranded from Ava’s superb cross. The girls were spoken to at half-time about the importance of keeping there concentration as they had the wind against them and Newhaven would have to push forward due to being 1-0 down.

Playing against the wind did not stop the Divas from playing there normal passing game and the girls enjoyed lots more possession due to ball holding up in the wind, and the girls working hard off the ball to create space for each other.

The midfield consisting of Michelle, Tia, Annabel and Mabel started to control the game and continued to win the ball back. This helped Ava, Cydney, Millie and Ellie to get forward and cause Newhaven lots of problems especially down the wing.

Worthing scored three goals in a five minute spell to wrap the game up, Millie, Ellie and Cydney getting her second of the match and Ava was very unlucky to hit the cross bar from a tight angle after some fantastic pass and move football.

Due to the poor playing condition the Worthing girls played some lovely pass and move football, they trust each other with the ball and spirit and will to work hard for each other never needs to be questioned.

Fantastic performance. Played 6 won 6, back on top of the league. Well done girls, I’m very proud of you all.
