AFC Worthing Youth merges with Ferring FC

We are delighted to announce AFC Worthing Youth is now part of Ferring Football Club.

Dear Players, parents, coaches and volunteers,

I have some exciting news to bring to you with regard to our football club taking another giant step forward.

Since taking on the role of Chairman in early 2015, I have seen the club grow from eight to sixteen teams. We now have three girls’ teams, a thriving 4-5 Junior Atoms and five teams competing in 11-a-side football. With this, we have many age groups fielding two teams.

We are a club that has grown while ensuring we continue with our excellent reputation. We have also see our numbers of coaches grow as well. This ensures we are able to give the right level of coaching to the children. This next season sees the club with its first adult team in the form of our Veterans. We are definitely on the up!

When Tony Puglia formed AFC Worthing Youth, his ambition was to give children a path through to adult football at a high level. I am pleased to announce we are able to realise this ambition. This week we have concluded discussions and informed the Sussex County FA of our wish to merge with Ferring Football Club.

I am hoping this news will not come as too much of a shock. Over the last year we have been working in partnership with the Ferring management. A number of our teams have already been playing over at Ferring. This includes all of our Under 12’s teams and our Under 15’s Divas. The teams which played at the Ferring facility enjoyed the experience.

What will change?

The first thing for yourselves and the players is to reassure you, from your perspective, nothing really changes. We have been working with the Ferring team for this past year to assess the dynamic of the relationship. We have done the hard work behind the scenes. There will be some subtle changes as the two organisations become one, albeit…

  • Our core values will not be changed
  • The youth committee will remain the same
  • Our highly regarded team coaches will remain the same
  • The website and Facebook pages will stay in place
  • Subscription fees and payment options will remain the same
  • Training locations will remain the same, Broadwater Green will remain as the prominent home of the younger
    age-groups
  • Training and match times will remain the same

So why become part of Ferring FC, what are the benefits?

  • A full-time home
  • Better facilities, we are now a County club, we have a true base
  • Long term ambitions (and plans) of improved facilities, including…
    • a floodlit 3G training pitch
    • improved clubhouse
  • The ability to offer players and parents better facilities
  • The ability to allow children to progress to a higher level of adult football
  • Stronger sponsorship opportunities
  • Better access to grants and funding
  • A club with 50 years history
  • A club with pedigree of holding large events
  • The opportunity to fuse our dynamism with a long established football organisation
  • A county level 11-a-side pitch
  •  To have as many teams playing at the same location on a Sunday to fully embrace our club community

What will the team names be?

As of the new 2016/17 season we will be known as Ferring Youth, the team names are as follows:

  • Ferring Youth Junior Atoms

This merger gives us all the opportunity to create a something very special. The committee and I look forward to having a stronger platform and working with the Ferring team to
create a first-class home for your children to continue their development in football.
