AFC Worthing Youth Stars U11 3 v 6 Worthing Town Yellow U11
Date: 26/10/2014
Venue: Fernhurst Drive
Youth goals: Matt 12mins, Jack 15 mins, Charles 38 mins

The Stars started the game with only eight players, with Joshua and Wesley filling the defensive positions. On two minutes the number advantage told, when Worthing Town broke free and scored, 0-1. The Stars numbers were restored soon after and the game swung in the Stars favour. Matt had a shot on 10 minutes but was just wide. On 12 minutes however, Matt brought the scores level with a close range shot, 1-1. The Stars continued to press with Matt hitting the bar and on 15 minutes the keeper spilled a shot and Jack tucked the ball home, 2-1. This seemed to spur on Worthing Town and on 18 minutes they levelled, 2-2. Worthing Town then pressed for the lead again and on 23 minutes where awarded a penalty. Worthing Town scored the resultant penalty, 2-3. Following the goal it was all Worthing Town and on 29 minutes they scored a fourth, 2-4. The Stars however would not lie down and just before the half time whistle Charles raced clear and slotted the ball home, 3-4.

At half time the Stars shuffled some of the positions and this seemed to work, as both Joshua and Matt saw shots hit straight at the Worthing Town keeper. As the Stars pressed for an equaliser they were undone on 42 minutes by a run down the right and the resultant cross was turned in, 3-5. Again the Stars pressed and both Lloyd and Jack were just unable to turn in crosses from the right. As the game wore on the Stars grew tired and on 47 minutes conceded a sixth, 3-6. However it did not stop the Stars and Joshua saw a shot well saved onto the post by the Worthing Town keeper, full time 3-6.

On another day it may have been different, but the team found the Worthing Town keeper in fine form, saving at least half a dozen goal bound efforts. So the unbeaten league run is over after four games. Heads-up, next week the aim is to start the run all over again.

Men of the Match: Wesley and Joshua.
