Match Report

This was a hard first game of the season for both of our teams. Youth & Atoms both started well showing great passion and enthusiasm as always.  Youth looked dangerous in front of goal with some cracking runs down the line from Stan, who used the ball well either crossing to Zach or shooting himself.  Billy McCormack in goal for the Atoms really did perform well with some good brave saves. The defence were also very strong in their challenges and blocking throughout the game.  Jack and Noah stopped many attacks for the Atoms in the first half, stifling Youth’s attempts on goal.

The first goal came from Zach who pulled off a clever little back heel and found the back of the net.  Youth continued the pressure and scored 4 before half time.  The Atoms midfield of Mackenzie & Jago worked both wings tirelessly and created some great chances and showed great team spirit with their tracking back.  Hayden Clarke really had a great game for the Atoms today and deserved his man of the match.  He led their defence with some awesome blocking, tackling, passing and player awareness.

Half time saw substitutes for both teams making their first appearance this season.   Jamie & Paddy for the Atoms, Ben, Lewis & Charlie for Youth, and all added to both team performances with commitment and drive.  The second half saw a strong battling Atoms come close several times.  Youth’s goalkeeper Joe needed to be alert off his line and was forced into some good saves.  Harry chased the ball all over the pitch for the Atoms working very hard, a performance to be proud of.  Charlie the Atoms striker attacked at every chance and was unlucky not to get a shot on goal.

The Youth defenders had a strong game today and were difficult to beat, Charlie & Dan did well stopping the Atoms forward play.  Ben & Zach looked dangerous up front, and were very determined to get a goal. The team changed many times for Youth with subs rolling on and off but great midfield performances today from Owen, Rye, Lewis, Sophie, Jack, & Sam.  With a goal and a solid captain’s performance Jack lead his team well throughout the game for Youth. Stan earned his man of the match award today netting himself a great hat trick.

Riley showed today why he’d been picked by his coach to be team captain for the Atoms.  He was a true leader in this tough match, a great role model for his fellow footballers.  He worked hard, tracking back and importantly encouraging every player in the team. Paddy and Jamie both had a great second half showing the spectators on the sidelines they are real team players, chasing every ball & driving forward whenever possible.  Jamie made two fantastic clearances off the goal line.

I’m sure everybody watching today’s game will agree that it was a great game of football and each and every player did themselves proud.  A fantastic all round performance on a very warm Sunday morning, keep it up teams!
