Date: 05/10/2014
Venue: North Mundham Playing Fields
Atoms Goals: Stan 36, 45, 49 mins, Jack 59 mins.

This morning’s game started with Youth playing all the football and causing Chichester all sorts of trouble at the back. We were dominating in the middle of the park even though we still didn’t look anywhere near our best. Zach made lots of great runs which forced Chichester to defend well and made the keeper work hard to keep us out. In about the 20th min Chichester broke and Charlie found himself in front of the Chi striker running back towards our goal, with Charlie being harassed from behind he was fouled and tripped.

After the chi striker fell over Charlie, the ref gave a penalty. 1-0.  AFC Worthing Youth reacted by placing more pressure on Chichester and we were looking dangerous in front of goal. In about the 27th min our midfield switched off and let a Chichester player walk through us and slot the ball in. 2-0.

During the half time chat we spoke about our desire and how we must compete more to start making our chances count. We didn’t really get much better at this to start with but Stan at last found the net with his bottom after a very good corner from Sam. We were on top with most of the play and possession but Chichester still had most of the goals. A real blow came next in the shape of another goal to Chichester. AFC Worthing Youth pick themselves up and pushed hard to get back into this game that was somehow slipping away from us.

Stan now had the bit between his teeth and scored two more to even things up. 3-3. Zach hit the post and was unlucky not score a wonderful side volley, Sam hit the post and Owen looked very menacing in front of goal. Zach made a fine run into the box only to be pushed out of the way and to the ground. With no penalty given AFC Worthing Youth now looked far more determined. Their effort rate double and it wasn’t long before Zach set up Jack to smash his shot home. 3-4.

A well fought victory in the end. Man of the match was earned by Charlie and Zach today. Both were ace, working endlessly at their different jobs and were very influential in today’s result. There was another player who was brilliant today, not only for scoring his hatrick but for his whole attitude and work rate and that was Stan.
