MATCH REPORT

Chichester City Youth U10 v AFC Worthing Youth U10

Today saw our U10 Youth team travelling to Chichester for their second game of the season. The first half did not see us at our best, however the performance in the second half was a completely different story, we were much better, with an eye for the ball and the passion to keep on working hard. Some great saves from our keeper Elliot in the second half and defensively Jake, Lewis & Kieran were all putting in a great spell of team work, keeping things really tight defensively.

Murphy scored a fantastic goal towards the end of the game, taking the ball down on the chest and finishing with a great volley!

Well done to Lewis for your man of the match award today, well deserved for a great defensive performance.

AFC Worthing Youth Atoms U10 v Worthing Minors Athletic U10

As a newly formed team this was the U10 Atoms first home fixture of the season and what a beautiful morning in the September sunshine it was. What more could a coach ask for from his players, but a good start to the game with an early goal. Atoms opened the scoring with a well placed shot under the keeper from Sam. The ball was won in midfield by Hayden, who used some neat footwork and passed the ball left to Rian. Rian in turn played an inside pass to Sam who then valiantly ran at the defence and slotted the ball home for the Atoms.

Worthing Minors were quite dominant once we’d scored, and had it not been for some outstanding and brave goalkeeping from Orlando, the final score line would’ve been very different. A great game for our keeper today, therefore Orlando was our man of the match, a well deserved accolade.

It was a good end to end game and enjoyed by all the players from both home and away teams. Being such a new team this was far from a bad result, you worked well as a team and gave it your all. As their coach, I was extremely happy with the Atoms work rate and effort today on the pitch, keep it up team!!

Worthing Town Youth Yellow U9 v AFC Worthing Youth U9

Due to injury & absence once again the U9’s team had players playing out of position but they nonetheless stepped up to the task asked of them. Casper continued in the centre of midfield, Oliver was looking to build on his excellent showing in our last match as the team’s right-sided midfielder, & a new-look centre-back pairing of sweeper Toby playing behind Leon.

A typically powerful finish from George C opened the scoring for us. With the floodgates open our first goal was quickly followed by a flood of fine finishes from George C notching up a fair few more goals throughout the game.

George F & Oliver surged forward in support of their centre forward at every opportunity. George F delivered a series of fine crosses into the box that caused the Worthing Town Youth team a constant headache. Eventually the pressure told again, with George F’s ball across the face of the area that, after a ricochet, fell kindly to Oliver to send home his first goal for the team. Then it was the turn of George F to get on the score sheet, his cracking long-range drive giving the Worthing Town Youth goalkeeper no chance.

It would have been easy for the team to switch off at the back after such a dominant display but Casper was doing sterling work, Leon & Toby seemed in full control of their opponents, Leon was even able to surge upfield on several occasions. Following a strong effort on goal from the Worthing Town Youth striker, Leon was unfortunate to concede a penalty for handball. The spot-kick was firmly struck beyond our keeper James.

At half time Alex replaced Leon & was to go on to have a fantastic half, breaking up play with his timely interceptions. It was comfortably his best performance yet & one he should look to build on for the rest of the season.

During the second half Worthing Town Youth came out motivated & ready to play. However, AFC Worthing Youth’s vibrant attacks quickly pinned them back in their own half with a combination of some great long-range strikes & George F dribbling with the ball to great effect. More sustained pressure saw AFC Worthing Youth force the Worthing Town Youth Yellow keeper into several fine saves & also hit the woodwork.

The whole team’s performance today was just outstanding. Everyone in the squad played their part & so many players deserve great credit for their attitude & application. All the same, Man Of The Match was given to George C who was pivotal to much of the team’s attacking play.
