Development Age Groups – This weeks round-up

AFC Worthing Youth U9 v Felpham Colts Youth U9

Today’s game saw AFC Worthing Youth U9’s return to their best form.  Right from the kick-off the team looked alert, eager & hungry to win the game.  So much so that in the first half they simply blew their opponents away.

AFC Worthing Youth U9s welcomed back Billy to the squad today after his break from the team through injury.  Billy’s return meant Casper could shift back to his preferred right-wing position.  In doing so Casper flourished in this role, passing the ball and scoring a well-deserved goal too.

The team’s other big change was between the posts, the squad welcomed new goalkeeper Bobby for his debut game.  He was to go on to have a terrific afternoon, he handled the ball confidently, kicked well from his hands & made 2 decisive saves.

Our U9’s flew out of the blocks from the kick off, Billy winning his first of many tackles & driving forward with the ball.  The team soon forced a corner & from a ricochet George C powered the ball home. Again, Billy played a great one-two with Oliver from a throw in, for the ball to again land at George C’s feet and for him to do what he does best, find the back of the net!!

Mikey also drove forward and powered home an awesome shot just right of centre. a strong, well-organised and talented team.  Billy then passed the ball again to George C who shot low & hard.  His effort was blocked & the rebound fell to Casper who slotted it home for AFC Worthing Youth.

At half time Toby replaced Leon.  Felpham tried valiantly to get back into the game but Youth were keeping up the pressure.  However, they did sweep up field to score a fine goal.  AFC Worthing carved out several more opportunities during the second half.

Top marks today to Casper for his incisive passing & for his first goal of the season. Credit also to debut goalkeeper Bobby, top scorer George C & to match day captain Mikey who had a storming game.  Also to Leon, who is developing with every game he plays, & Oliver who played a high standard of football today.  Credit to all of them and the whole team for today’s performance.

Man of the match today went to Billy, a great performance today, tackling and driving forward at any opportunity. A great return from injury.

Worthing Minors v AFC Worthing Youth U10

Our U10’s once again were unlucky to lose again today.  We played some attractive football with some intense pressure meaning Minors were being pushed hard in the last 10 minutes of the first half.

The second half AFC Worthing Youth came out raring to go keeping up the momentum and pressure from the first half.  With 15 minutes to go our players threw everything they had at the game and we were unfortunate to have 2 efforts on goal cleared off the line.

A great performance today and all players should come away from this weeks game with their heads held high.

Well done to Jake for your man of the match award today, well deserved for a great defensive performance.
