Exciting trials at Brighton FC for AFC Worthing Youth U12s Vice Captain!

After yet another brilliant season with our AFC Worthing Youth Under 11’s team, our fantastic vice-captain Sophie has earned the opportunity to have trials with the Brighton FC girls’ team.

Sophie and Jack with Trophy

Sophie has already completed two training sessions and was invited to play in a friendly against the u13s Hampshire girls team. The game took place at Brighton’s impressive training ground in Lancing on one of their many 3G pitches. The format of the game was slightly different to what Sophie was used to as there were six 20 minute parts to the game.

Sophie played in three of these and straight away you could see her quality was equal to the rest. Last season Sophie played a big part in the U11’s Youth league victory where she played most of her football in defence.

Playing up front and out of position, Sophie didn’t disappoint. Sophie scored not one, but two goals for the Seagulls. The first, was a move that Sophie started around the half way line with a cracking series of passes with the right winger. The two players worked their way up the pitch where Sophie received the ball on the penalty spot and smashed it home. Sophie’s second came from the right side of goal where her shot found the net going right across the keeper. It was a proud afternoon for our football club as at one point the Seagulls had two players from AFC Worthing Youth heading the strike force.

Ella and Sophie are old teammates with Ella entering her third season with Brighton. Sophie received her feedback from the coaches on Tuesday evening during a meeting at the training ground. Sophie has been invited back for two further training sessions and another match! These take place in a couple of weeks so hopefully we’ll be reporting some great news soon.

Good luck Sophie, we all wish you the very best!
