October 11th – AFC Worthing Youth Football Club Match Reports

Match scores/reports for our competitive AFC Worthing Youth Teams for Sunday 11th October.

AFC Worthing Youth U13

Worthing Minors 2 – 2 AFC Worthing Youth U13
Date: 11/10/2015
Venue: Victoria Park, Worthing
Goals: James (25 mins, 45 mins)

The Atoms played their best football of the season to secure a draw against last season’s third place side.

The Atoms took control of the game from the Kick off, retaining possession, playing some great simple passing football and penetrating the Minors defence with some clever through balls, however against the run of play it was Minors who took the lead with an amazing goal from just inside the Atoms half on 15 minutes.

The Atoms responded well and 10 minutes later earned the equaliser that they more than deserved, James eventually striking the ball into an undefended goal from just inside the box. At the start of the second half the Atoms looked a little vulnerable as Minors too easily cut their way through the centre of the team and within minutes the Minors striker was meeting a well placed through ball ahead of the Atoms central defence and although the initial shot was saved, the rebound was slotted home easily and the Atoms were chasing again.

After 10 minutes and following some tactical substitutions the Atoms took control again, they fought hard to win every 50/50 ball and to close down every Minors move and when in possession they started to cause Minors a lot of problems as the pace of Wes, Charlie, Tom and James was difficult for their defence to handle. On 45 minutes it was James again that found the net, scoring a beautiful goal , struck hard and high over the keepers head. At 2-2 it remained competitive to the whistle, but it was the Atoms that created the better opportunities, Wesley hitting the bar and a half dozen shots narrowly missing their target. In the end the boys were unlucky not to earn a victory, but take a valuable point from one of the best teams in the league.

Well done guys a great team performance.

AFC Worthing Youth U12 2 – 0 Barnham Trojans Red
Date: 11/10/15
Venue: Ferring FC
Goals: Zach (35 mins), Owen (65 mins)

Today’s game started with the youth in a bright positive mood for football. The team were strong going forward and worked really hard when defending. On about the 15th min mark AFC Worthing Youth were awarded a corner. The corner kick reached Stan just inside the box, who smashed a goal bound half volley which slipped though the keepers legs. With AFC Worthing Youth 1-0 up the team looked fairly comfortable although Joe Vince had to make a couple of saves to keep us in front.

The second half saw us on top and playing positively. Our second goal came from a brilliant run from Lewis down the left side where he crossed over for Stan to poke the ball home with his knee. The team looked good for the win but I was more pleased with the way the players did everything with a smile and a perfect attitude.

Man Of Match was Rye for his great tackles and his fantastic skill going forward.

AFC Worthing Youth Stars 1 v 3 Felpham Colts U12
Date: 11/10/2015
Venue: Ferring FC
Youth goals: Aidan (15 mins)

On a cool breezy Sunday morning we took to the field at Ferring FC to play Felpham Colts.

Felpham started very strong scoring their first goal within the first 30 seconds of the match. AFC Worthing Youth didn’t drop their heads but held them high and fought back with some great passing between them giving Lucas a shot from a corner that just went wide of the goal in the second minute. The boys kept pushing and putting pressure on Felpham.

We had a penalty awarded to us from a hand ball in the 4th minute, Hugo stepped up to take the penalty but unfortunately the shot was saved.
Aidan, Hugo, Lucas and Max all had shots on goal that were saved. In the 12th minute we were awarded a free kick from another hand ball but nothing came from the set-play. Aidan got hold of the ball in the 15th minute and shot the ball over the Felpham goalies head into the back of the net in the top corner to make the score 1 – 1.

Felpham came back hard with a shot on goal in the 18th minute that Connor saved by tipping the ball over the top of the goal, then in the 23rd minute they had another shot that hit the top inside of the post and just went in before Connor could get his hand on it to make it 1 – 2.
We were awarded a free kick that Sam took in the 24th minute that went just wide then a couple of minutes later Felpham were in front of our goal again there was a lot of toing and froing when Hugo headed the ball clear over the top of the goal. During the first half, the team were awarded about 7 or 8 corners unfortunately we were not able to convert them into goals. At half-time the score was 2 – 1.

At half-time we made the following substitution Jamie came on for Connor. We came out fighting with some more great passing between the boys resulting in Hugo having a shot that hit the cross bar, Lucas having a header and a free kick from Aidan all being saved within the first 10 minutes of the half.

The boys kept their heads up and tried to keep the pressure on Felpham. We were awarded a couple of free kicks during the second half and the boys made some good runs but were unable to convert them into opportunities. Will came on for Owen at 45 minutes.
In the dying minutes of the game Felpham had one last push and were able to get one last goal past us to make the score 1- 3.

The full-time score was 1 – 3 to Felpham Colts.

The Man of the Match this week is Aidan for is outstanding contribution to the match and his superb goal celebration.
