October 18th – AFC Worthing Youth Football Club Match Reports

Match scores/reports for our competitive AFC Worthing Youth Teams for Sunday 18th October.

AFC Worthing Youth U13

AFC Worthing Youth U13 3 – 2 Chichester City Youth White
Date: 18/10/2015
Venue: Fernhurst
Goals: Wesley (20 mins, 60 mins), Charlie (60 mins)

The Atoms secured their first victory of the season with a win over second place side Chichester City Youth.

The Atoms were having the better possession in the first 10 minutes, but it was Chichester who took the lead, Dom pulled the arm of one of the opposition in what looked like an innocuous position mid-way into the Atoms half, but a great free kick rocketed over the Atoms keeper into the roof of the net. Chichester’s confidence was boosted, the pace of the game increased and both teams played some good football. Worthing drew level 10 minutes later when Wesley managed to find enough space on the outside of the box to fire off a great shot into the bottom right hand corner and the teams went in at half time evenly matched in every sense of the word.

It was the Atoms who then took the lead 10 minutes into the second half, Charlie lifting the ball above the keepers head, but just minutes later Chichester drew level. Chichester played well for the next 15 minutes and the Atoms had to work hard defensively, However as Chichester pushed the Atoms looked dangerous every time they had the opportunity to counter, it was a tough battle and the game could have easily gone either way, but the game was ultimately decided by a wonderful solo run by Wesley who twisted and turned through half a dozen Chichester players before driving the ball home with 10 minutes remaining on the clock. Chichester pushed for the equaliser and came very close in the final minutes when a shot beat the keeper, but Max had already spotted the danger and had positioned himself well to clear the ball off the line.

Well done guys.

Worthing Minors 7 – 2 AFC Worthing Youth U12
Date: 18/10/15
Venue: Rotary
Goals: Lewis (35 mins), Stan (40 mins)
Player of Match: Lewis

The Youth lost this game in the first 10 mins. We found ourselves 3 down early on, everyone one of those goals was down to us, with poor defending as a team and disinterested players. We were unlucky at times with the rub of the green but at the end of the day, Worthing United wanted it more and made us look very average at best. We finished the half 4-0 down. Second half we went to 1 at the back and went out there to try to win the half and see where that would take us. Lewis and Stan both looked sharp up top, with both scoring early in the half, we started to look like we could make a comeback or at least worry United. Unfortunately for us, United scored right at the wrong time which stopped us. Had we scored at that point, who knows.

AFC Worthing Youth Stars 2 v 1 Predators
Date: 18/10/2015
Venue: Ferring FC
Youth goals: McKenzie (34 mins), Charlie (47 mins)
Player/s of the Match: Charlie and McKenzie

Following some tactical changes, the team to the pitch with a new look. Our attitude was right from the start and within five minutes we had three shots on goal making their keeper work hard for 0-0. We attacked and matched them all over pitch and really could have been 3-0 up!

On the 10 minute mark we lost the ball down our left hand side. Charlie had a chance to clear the ball, but lost the opportunity with Predators had a lucky shot and ended in the goal! We didn’t change anything and continued to defend and attack more with Riley, Brennan and Mckenzie ruling the middle of the pitch.

Team talk at half-time was easy as the team had played the best half of the season. Lots of praise and boosting them up.

Second half we were amazing all over the pitch. The new defence Tony (RB). Tom (CB) Jamie (CB) and Charlie (LB) were so strong and worked for each other today. 10 minutes into the second half and Mckenzie was running riot down the left side, dribbled the ball around three defenders then put the ball through the keepers legs,  1-1.

The Atoms were on the attack and were really stretching them from left to right. We could have scored four more goals if it wasn’t for their keeper saving everything! We had a corner on 45 minutes , Tom headed wide, we then had another corner three minutes later. On the third corner Charlie who kept asking to go up to take corners got his wish scoring an amazing diving header. Charlie thoroughly deserved this goal.

The good thing was we didn’t sit back and we defended wisely. Jago, Mckenzie, Tony and Tom who had run their hearts out were subbed.
Joseph, Alfie, Noah and Charlie slotted in and played disciplined roles. The Predators goalie made a few more saves before final whistle making it 2-1, our first win of the season!

Charlie and Mckenzie were voted joint man of the match. Mckenzie was a nightmare for any defender today, every spin , twist and flick worked.
His game has stepped up a level, with results at the end of his runs. He deserved his goal.

Charlie who we have switched from striker to left back. At first he didn’t like this position , today he nailed it and got the winning goal and man of the match. All the team have kept going defeat after defeat and never giving up. They have got my respect and hopefully got their belief back.

Massive well done !

AFC Worthing Youth Stars 4 v 0 Rustington Otters Youth Red
Date: 18/10/2015
Venue: Woodland Park, Station Road
Youth goals: Lucas (15 mins, 20 mins, 24 mins, 45 mins)
Player of the Match: Lucas

Great performance today. 4 goals from Lucas in the 15th 20th, 24th and 45th minute. Close game at first and then we found some width and Oz crossed it in from the right for the first goal then a mix up at the back resulted in similar 2nd and 3rd. The forth was a goal kick through from Jamie direct to Lucas who ran and with a high looping shot netted. Jamie was forced to make a couple of saves in each half but was really solid and goal kicks were back on today.

Joe, Ouch and Aidan were just brilliant at the back and the whole team stuck to the game plan. Will and Liam came on with 14 to go and played really well. They replaced Max and Hugo with Joe moving into centre mid. Man of the match was Lucas for his 4 goals.

Best performance yet!
