October 4th – AFC Worthing Youth Football Club Match Reports

Match scores/reports for our competitive AFC Worthing Youth Teams for Sunday 4th October.

AFC Worthing Youth U15 Divas

AFC Worthing Youth Divas U15’s 4 – 2 Ringmer Rovers Girls
Date: 04/10/2015
Venue: Ferring FC
Divas goals: Millie (23 mins, 36 mins), Tish (53 mins), Cyd (73 mins)

Welcoming back Lauren and Tia to the squad the girls took to the pitch in the early October sun for the 2pm kick-off.

After what was a very tight opening Ringmer Rovers took the lead on the 23rd minute following great work which split the Divas defence. The set-back woke the girls up. Within five minutes Captain Millie equalised following excellent pressing play from the team and a cool finish. Having equalized the girls found a different gear and regained their confidence. On 36 mins Millie collected the ball at the half-way line and surged through the Rovers team with a lung-busting run to score her second goal of the game. The teams went in at half-time with Divas holding a slender 2-1 lead.

The second-half saw an excellent response from Rovers. The away team really getting at the Divas and putting the home team under pressure. With Divas riding their luck somewhat the team broke again with Tish scoring the fourth goal of the game to give the Divas a 3-1 lead and a two-goal cushion. The lead was cut almost immediately as Ringmer poured forward and a shot which looked as though it was going wide crept into the Divas net, 3-2. The Rovers spirits were clearly lifted with getting back into the game so rapidly and were putting Divas under a lot of pressure. Eventually the pressure told and Ringmer were awarded a penalty following a handball by the defending home team. Goalkeeper Darian made a defining save to prevent Ringmer from equalizing with the Divas clearing the danger from the save. As the game progressed it was very even and it took a breakaway goal from the Divas to take a 4-2 lead. Fine build-up play allowed the girls to utilize the pace of Cydney who sprinted on to a through-ball and was able to put the ball past the keeper.

The girls had to work hard for their win and credit to Ringmer who gave the Divas a very good game and who were unlucky to lose.

AFC Worthing Youth U13 2 – 4 Bognor
Date: 04/10/2015
Venue: Fernhurst
Goals: Charlie, Dom

The Atoms played well Bognor in an excellent County cup game that saw both teams play some great football. The two teams were evenly matched throughout. The Atoms played some great simple football, kept their shape well and had spells where they were very much on top. Only in the final quarter with tired legs and the Atoms chasing the game did Bognor look the better team.

Bognor took the lead on 15 minutes from a corner, the ball looping high over Max’s head into the top of the net. Charlie pulled the Atoms level just a minute later with a brilliant long range left footed shot and the Atoms took the lead 5 minutes later when Dom scored his first goal for the Atoms with a great header. Bognor were very lucky to go in at half time level with an equaliser that was squeezed through three pairs of Atoms legs. In the second half Bognor scored two. One from a goalmouth scramble that the boys failed to clear effectively and the other from a through ball that the central defenders failed to deal with decisively, in a game where they were otherwise excellent.

The Atoms have improved massively since their first game of the season, this was a great team performance of which they should be very proud. (I am) On another day this could have been the Atoms game. The boys have a chance to take revenge in a few weeks when we meet in a league clash.

AFC Worthing Youth U12

AFC Worthing Youth U12 3 – 7 Southdown Rovers
Date: 04/10/15
Venue: Ferring FC
Goals: Sam (10 mins), Rye (20 mins), Zach (55 mins)

The game started with the Youth being the better team. The home team scored straight from a Sam corner on the 10 minute mark. Southdown leveled a few minutes later after we made it far too easy for them at the back post. Our second goal came from another Sam corner which fell to Rye to stab home. Southdown quickly scored to level things again after beating us down the left side and crossing to an unmarked player. Southdown from then on exploited our bad day and found unmarked players to score at will. The team never got going as a unit at the same time and this was the difference between the teams today. Although Southdown looked a good side, we made it too easy for them and did not hit our usual levels. The Youth haven’t been beaten for close to a year, so on reflection this result will do the team no harm. Back to training and try harder next week!

AFC Worthing Youth U12 Stars

Worthing United Colts 3 v 3 AFC Worthing Youth Stars U12
Date: 04/10/2015
Venue: Hill Barn Recreation Ground
Youth goals: Max (21 mins, 28 mins), Lucas (50 mins)
Player of the Match: Owen

On a warm Sunday morning we took to the field at Hill Barn Recreation ground to play Worthing United Colts.

The boys started off strong taking the game straight to the Colts with a shot on goal within the first 7 minutes. Colts came back making Jamie dive to save a shot on goal and then a couple of minutes later Jamie punched the ball around the side of the goal for a Colts corner.
The boys worked well together passing the ball between them creating opportunities and numerous shots on goal from Aidan, Sam, Max, Oscar and Lucas.  20 minutes into the half Lucas had a shot on goal that rebounded to Max who was just unable to put it away before he was tackled but he didn’t give up and won the ball back and this time he was able to find the back of the net to make the score 0 – 1 to AFCWY Stars.

Colts came straight back and had a goal disallowed couple of minutes later for a player being off side. Then at 28 minutes Max popped up and scored his second goal of the match to make the score at half time 0 – 2 to AFCWY Stars.

At half-time we made the following substitutions Connor came on for Jamie in goal, Hugo came on for Joe, Liam came on for Owen. D then 10 minutes later William came on for Liam.

The Colts came out in the second half pushing hard with a goal 2 minutes into the half, Connor almost saved it with a great dive but he just couldn’t quite get his fingers to the ball making the score 1 – 2. Our boys fought back with Aidan having a high shot on goal in the 35th minute that their keeper managed to catch.  Then in the 37th minute the Colts made the score 2 – 2.  The boys kept their heads up and carried on pushing the Colts with some great passing, we then at 43 minutes had a disallowed goal due to a player being offside.

The Colts made the score 3 – 2 in the 48th minute. We kept fighting and taking our chances where we could, Lucas had a shot on goal deflected a minute later. Then in the 50th minute Lucas took the ball at the halfway line and ran up the pitch and scored to bring the score to 3 – 3.
In the dying minutes of the match Connor punched the ball to save a goal and Hugo headed it out of play.

The full-time the score was a 3 – 3 draw.

The Man of the Match this week is Max for is outstanding contribution to the match.
