Sept 13th – AFC Worthing Youth Football Club Match Reports

Match reports for our competitive AFC Worthing Youth Teams for Sunday 13th September.

AFC Worthing Youth U15 Divas

AFC Worthing Youth Divas U15’s 5 – 3 Southdown
Date: 13/09/2015
Venue: Ferring FC
Divas goals: Ava (50 mins, 87 mins), Cyd (70 mins), Leticia (25 mins, 85 mins)
Player of the Match: Lauren L

AFC Worthing Divas girls football team played lovely passing football throughout the game and were very composed when in possession of the ball. The girls fell behind from a breakaway goal but continued to pass the ball around. Leticia equalized with a fantastic long range shot from outside the box. With the score at 1-1 Ava had a chance to put Divas 2-1 ahead, but the Southdown keeper made an excellent save. Divas were made to pay for this. Within a few minutes Southdown scored again from another breakaway goal half-time.

Divas started the second half brightly but looked vulnerable at times when Southdown broke at pace at the back four. Not long after the restart Southdown had scored again with an excellent worked move to out-wit the Divas defence, the girls now being 1-3 down.

Cydney was brought back into the game and help change the pace of the Divas attacks. Immediately the girls looked at lot more threatening when attacking. Cydney scored a great individual goal for the Divas when she raced passed Southdown’s last defender to smash her shot into the far corner, at 2-3 and with 15 minutes remaining the team had got themselves back into the game.  From this point the girls then grew in confidence and attacked the Southdown defence with great pace and real purpose. With the girls in a rhythm and their passing game kicked into gear they equalized and went on to find another gear and eventually win the game 5-3.

Fantastic passing and the movement from the girls was hard for Southdown to cope with at times, The girls never gave up and deserved the result in the end.

AFC Worthing Youth U12

Lancing Rangers Select U12 1 – 6 AFC Worthing Youth U12
Date: 13/09/15
Venue: Globe Primary School
Goals: Stan (35 mins, 55 mins), Lewis (32 mins, 40 mins, 50 mins), Sam (48 mins)
Player of the Match: Sam

A tricky-tie for the Youth against a Division C side in the Cup and this being our first game since winning the league last season. The Youth started well on top, creating lots of chances but we either forced a great save or missed the target. The Youth looked rusty as you would expect and we looked unsure at the back. Towards the end of the first half Lancing had three good chances and managed to convert one of them causing the Youth to go into the break 1-0 down.

After the coaches team-talk the Youth reacted perfectly. The second half started with the type of football we were used to seeing last season. Lewis got us level with a super shot from just inside the box. Lewis had only been on the pitch for two mins before he got the first of his three.

At this point of the game the Youth stepped into their stride and were now creating chance after chance. Stan took one of these, banging the ball home after one of his many runs down the right flank. Owen had a great run, taking on Lancing players then squaring the ball to Lewis who then smashed his second home. Lewis struck again minutes later with an ace shot from outside the box which took great composure to hit the target. Sam scored himself a cracker too from outside the box. Sam received the ball on the edge of the box and struck a perfect shot to the keepers right.

Our last goal came from a Sam run down the left wing, Sam beat four players then slipped a great ball over for Stan to slot home.

Man of the Match was awarded to Sam for a brilliant display. Sam caused loads of trouble for Lancing with his determined runs and tackling. Owen had a fantastic second half along side Sophie who returned to the side post her trials with Brighton FC. Owen for his penetrating work down the right side and Sophie for the way she controlled the middle of the park, allowing Sam to roam freely. The first hat-trick of the new season for Lewis can’t go unnoticed! Three great goals and some great passing too.

Well done to the Youth and onto the next round!

AFC Worthing Youth U12 Stars

AFC Worthing Youth Stars U12.  1 v 3   Rustington Otters Red U12
Date: 13/09/2015
Venue: Ferring FC
Youth goals: Hugo (28 mins)
Player of the Match: Connor

On a cool cloudy breezy Sunday morning the team took to the field for the first time on our new home ground.

We got off to a strong start with the boys taking the game to the Otters with a cross in front of the goal from Oscar which went just wide after about the first five minutes. Both teams played solidly in their own halves with both keepers making some good saves. Unfortunately Aidan had a goal disallowed for being off side after 10 minutes.

The boys kept up the pressure on the Otters with several shots on goal from Hugo, Lucas, Oscar with Samuel hitting the crossbar twice and Aidan shot going just wide of the post.

Connor made a great save from a free kick punching it over the bar after 23 minutes, closely followed by a diving save pushing the ball around the side of the goal.

The deadlock was broken on the 27th minute as Otters managed to get the ball past Connor who dived and just couldn’t get his hand on it. Within 60 seconds the Stars had equalized with Hugo scoring from a penalty to make the score 1 – 1 at half time.

The Second half got off to a strong start with both teams pushing hard with Lucas having a goal disallowed for being off side a couple of minutes into the half. William made a great run down the left wing covering about three-quarters of the pitch before being tackled.

The Otters nearly scored an own goal as a result of a Stars corner on the 40 minute-mark, but then went on to score again after 48 minutes to make the score 1 – 2. All the boys kept the pressure on the Otters and we had several shots on goal that either hit the bar or were saved.  A couple minutes before the final whistle the Otters scored again from a free kick to make the final score 1-3 to the Otters.

A great hard fought team effort from everyone, all the players should be proud of how well we played as a team today.

The Man of the Match Trophy went to Connor for his outstanding effort in goal today.

AFC Worthing Youth U12 Atoms

Predators Youth 3 – 2 AFC Worthing Youth Atoms
Date: 13/09/15
Venue: Predamome
Goals: Charlie (6 mins), Jago (45 mins)
Player of the match: Jago

The team were really unlucky with the result today. The Atoms came-up against a strong and psychical side. The team really deserved at least the draw. The game was really good to watch and the result could of gone anyway. The team were unlucky having thought we had equalized in the last minute only for the goal to be disallowed due to the passage of play being just offside. It was great to see Jago chipping the goalie 25 yards from goal. We really are improving and we can see progress in our movement both on and off the ball.

Thank you for your support and patience with results.

AFC Worthing Youth U12 Galaxy

AFC Worthing Youth Galaxy 4 – 1 Sovereign Saints
Date: 13/09/15
Venue: Ferring FC
Goals: Leo (2), Alex, George

After last week’s win, Under 12’s Galaxy were looking for their first home league win of the season. The crowd were full of hope and expectation with a full team available. Last year’s top goal scorer, George, was now back from his holidays and looking fit and relaxed and Drew who was one of three new signings over the summer was also on the team sheet.

Manager, Jon Burton decided to keep mainly with the same starting nine from last week with only Lewis starting instead of Felix at the back who has a slight knee injury and George up front instead of Matthew.

The game got underway quite slowly but with all chances coming from the home side. Alex had two early corners which were both crossed well into the box but in each case went wanting as no one was able to get a touch.

There was also attempts from Alex which sailed over the cross bar after a well timed pass from George.

The agony for the home fans continued as Leo blasted high and wide and again a missed opportunity from a low cross from Tino where no one was there to meet.

However, the crowd didn’t have to wait long as George broke from midfield and shot hard and high and was only stopped by the Sovereign’s keeper who could only parry the ball to Leo who took it past a defender and managed to slot into the goal through the tightest of angles.

After the break, the game continued in the same fashion with Joel, Lewis and Mason keeping things tight at the back. The next goal came as the forwards pressed hard and Alex slotted the ball into the bottom right corner from a pass within the box from George, making it his second of the season.

The away team was far from beaten though and counter attacked shortly after. Joel lost his marker and the opposition broke free and beat the goalkeeper to half the deficit.

AFC Worthing Youth Galaxy continued to battle hard and soon there efforts were rewarded with a great cross from Oli and a goal from George, who has now opened his account for the season.

This then saw three substitutions with Joel coming off for Felix, Tino for Matthew and Lewis for Drew. The fresh legs helped to ensure that Sovereign didn’t get back into the game and even helped to increase the goal tally, as Leo scored again from five yards, to make it two from him.

After the game head coach Emelio said “it was a great team effort, they were disciplined and structured and are starting to form into a well manufactured engine”.

Coach: John Burton.
