AFC Worthing Youth U13 1 -6 Bognor Regis Town
Date: 20/09/15
Venue: Fernhurst
Goals: Ben

The Atoms were drawn against last seasons second place side Bognor in the first round of the cup.

Whilst the Atoms knew it would be a tough game they approached the first half with confidence, every player played to their potential and they were unlucky to go in at half time 1-0 down.

However the second half was unfortunately a different story, 10 minutes in, Bognor scored their second, their game lifted and the Atoms found it increasingly hard to stay with the pace.

Ben scored a lovely consolation goal which he lifted beautifully over the keepers head from just inside the box, but in the final 15 minutes Bognor scored three and the teams left the pitch with a rather disappointing 6-1 score line.

On a beautiful sunny warm Sunday morning we took to the pitch at Durrington High School to play Worthing Dynamos Youth in the Challenge Cup.

The boys came out fighting against a strong team and around 10 minutes into the match the Dynamos advanced towards our goal which resulted in our goalie Jamie coming out to tackle their striker but he went around him and shot at goal, the ball went just wide and hit the side of the net.

Then eight minutes later Dynamos scored when two of their players attacked and Jamie was not able to stop the goal to make it 1-0.

Our boys fought back and pushed the Dynamos back into their own half where two minutes later a corner from Aidan was blocked, our boys retrieved the ball and had a shot on goal that was saved.

On the 26th minute Dynamos moved up the field at a fast pace and shot up and over Jamie’s head to make it 2 – 0.  Closely followed by another goal a couple of minutes later when they shot high and Jamie was unable to get a hand on it to stop it from hitting the top corner of the net so at half time the score was 3 – 0. Jamie had to work hard during the half and made some great saves and cleared the ball several times.

At half time we made a couple of substitutes Hugo came on for Lucas and Owen came on for Liam,we also changed a couple of the boys positions.

We came out hard taking the match to the Dynamos and it paid off after five minutes into the half, Oscar scored from corner closely followed by a great cross from Oscar to Samuel who put the ball in the back of the net to make  the score 3-2.  We had a couple more shots on goal to level the scores  including one from Max that was just wide of the post. The next goal came from Dynamos, who scored again at 50 minutes to make it 4-2.

Connor then came on to replace Jamie in goal for the last eight minutes of the game, he had to get to work quickly making a couple of cracking saves but unfortunately there was nothing he could do at 58 minutes when Dynamos scored their last goal of the match to make it 5-2 at the final whistle.

Man of the Match was Owen for his outstanding efforts when he came on as a substitute in the second half and for his great defending.
