Worthing United 2 – 2 AFC Worthing Youth U12
Date: 27/09/15
Venue: The Rotary
Goals: Rye (35 mins), Ben (40 mins)

Players of Match: Rye and Joe

After two consecutive cup matches, this game was the Youths first league game in the A division following the team’s promotion as champions last season.

The game started with both teams playing a competitive match with neither on top. During the first half the Youth had a few good chances but if not for some last minute tackles and some great saves from Joe  the team could have easily gone into the break 3-0 down.

The second half saw a close game with the Youth arguably on top whereby the team made good scoring chances but didn’t find the net until a corner from Sam fell short of the keeper which Rye was able to poke home. The Youth were doing enough to control the game but given a chance United always looked capable of scoring a goal. Stan made two brilliant 1-on-1 runs which he was unlucky not to hit the target with one and the other forced a great save from the keeper.

Our second goal came from a great piece of football down our right side that resulted in Ben receiving the ball at the back post. Ben beat the defender well and smashed home the shot from close range. The Youth continued to look good for the win until Worthing United undone us with a great switching pass from right to left which found us slow to react. This goal came with only one minute left plus stoppages. The levelling goal came from the penalty spot following a foul.

Joe was unlucky not to save the penalty as he made strong contact with ball but the shot was going like a rocket. As the Youth took the centre the referee blew for full-time.

A disappointing end for the Youth, but United worked hard for it. A point each was a fair result as I didn’t see a lot between these two hardworking teams.

AFC Worthing Youth Stars U12 2 -1 Worthing Town Yellow U12
Date: 27/09/2015
Venue: Ferring FC
Youth goals: Aiden (8 mins), Max (40 mins)
Player of the Match: Owen

On a breezy sunny Sunday morning we took to our home field to play Worthing Town Yellow.

Our boys came out strong and on the attack right from the kick off with Aiden having a shot on goal that went just wide after the first 5 minutes. Aiden went on to score our first goal a couple of minutes later.

Worthing Town came back and had a shot on goal 10 minutes into the half that was saved by Connor. With the boys pushing and holding Worthing Town back Hugo and Lucas had several shots on goal that were saved and or hit the cross bar.

Our boys continued to put the pressure on Worthing Town with great passing between the boys and several shots on goal.  Worthing Town had a shot on goal that hit the post at 27 minutes.

At the half-time whistle the score was 1 -0 to AFC Worthing Youth Stars. At half-time we made the following substitute Jamie came on for Connor.

Worthing Town started the second half quite strong and on the attack they scored from a rebound about two minutes into the half to make the score 1-1. The team fought back and put the pressure back on Worthing Town with Max scoring after 40 minutes to make the score 2 – 1 to the Stars.

We kept up the pressure with some good passing and a few more shots on goal that were saved. For the last 15 minutes William Widdows came on for Hugo and Tom came on for Owen.

Jamie made a couple of great saves to keep the final score 2 – 1 to AFC Stars at the final whistle. The boys celebrated our first win of the season with a massive water fight. None of the boys came away dry!

The man of the match this week was Owen (OCH) for an outstanding performance.

Well done boys you all played your socks off it was a well deserved win.
