MATCH REPORT

Worthing Minors dominated the first 15 minutes of the game. Our Youth under 12’s struggled to get to grips with Minors pace and strength. With such domination it was no surprise to find Worthing Minors went 2-0 up. The first goal coming from a good strong header from a well flighted corner. The second Worthing Minors goal was a disappointing one to give away. The goal came from distance. The Youth Under 12’s failed to close down the opposition quick enough to prevent the shot which left the keeper beaten at the far post.

As the half went on the Atoms improved and started to have a greater share of possession, James in particular causing the Minors problems down the left. Harry and Ben came on for the last 10 minutes of the first half and while having a positive impact, the team still struggled to create many clear goal-scoring opportunities.

In the second half the game was a little more open. Although Worthing Minors continued to be the stronger of the two teams, AFC Worthing Youth were starting to create opportunities. There were at least half a dozen times when AFC Worthing Youth players were put through onto goal. Sadly the killer ball eluded the team and the Worthing Minors keeper was never significantly tested. As the match progressed AFC Worthing Youth came really close to scoring. The first from Samuel who struck a fantastic direct free kick. The second opportunity came following a well worked cross by Max.

As the team pushed forward trying to get back into the game the team left gaps at the back. Worthing Minors were able to capitalise with the available space. The third Worthing Minors goal came from a corner, the final Minors goal was a cool finish as the striker lost his marker to slot home. Congratulations to Worthing Minors who deserved the win.
